Shonda Smith is a seasoned communications and marketing professional with in-depth leadership experience positioning nonprofits for sustainable growth and success. She is a published writer passionate about using her skills and voice to leave the world better than she’s found it. With a unique blend of public relations, fundraising, content development, event management, and brand-building expertise, Shonda’s professional journey has led her to powerhouse organizations like the Harlem Children’s Zone, Girl Scouts of the USA, Innocence Project, MADRE, and now, WE in the World Institute.

Shonda’s portfolio includes writing a wide range of impact reports and convening community experts for thought-provoking discussions, including what prosecutorial accountability looks like in the U.S. legal system. She has worked with celebrities and activists to champion and mobilize underserved communities.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Shonda is a product of parents who migrated to the U.S. from Barbados and Trinidad. She earned a bachelor’s degree in print journalism from SUNY College at New Paltz and her master’s degree in publishing science from New York University. In her spare time, Shonda enjoys dancing, traveling with her loving and spirited family, listening to live music, playing highly competitive games of Scrabble, curling up with a riveting memoir, and writing about everyday people doing the extraordinary.
